Transport

As this is a rural area, a car is highly recommended, but there is a No. 29 Wilts & Dorset 'country' bus service from the door to Salisbury and Shaftesbury.

(Note: Last bus 5:40 p.m.!)

If you would like to explore the area without the car, then we have bikes for hire and there are many excellent footpaths with access directly from the property.

There is an excellent local taxi company   Prestige Cabs.

Shops

There is a village shop 1 mile away which is a general grocery store, a butcher's and post office!

In Wilton (5 miles) there are several food shops and a mini-supermarket with extended opening hours.

In Salisbury (7 miles) there is a full range of shops and supermarkets, including an excellent Waitrose, Sainsburys & a 24 hour Tesco.

Eating out

The area is exceptionally well endowed with excellent village pubs (two within a mile!) which serve real ale and good food. There are also 3 Award winning ''gourmet' pubs within a 10 - 20 minute drive. Salisbury provides a wide variety of English and foreign restaurants and historic pubs.

We keep an 'Eating Out Guide' file with details of our favourite restaurants and pubs and we are always happy to make suggestions.

Local Produce

The village shop is also a butchers, which sells excellent traditional Wiltshire ham & bacon and also superb steaks. Broad Chalke is also famous for its chalk stream watercress beds, with an 'off-sales' counter.

There are several Farmers' Markets and farm shops in the area and local & organic produce including vegetable boxes may be ordered (in advance) from Britford Farm Shop, who deliver here. Also nearby is the Ansty Farm Shop and PYO.
