Vroom Vroom!

Last year for a 'special birthday' treat Peter went to Thruxton (40 minutes away) and, after an excellent briefing, drove a Porsche with an instructor and then a single seater Formula Renault racing car at speed round the circuit.

Thruxton is the fastest racing circuit in England and you can choose to drive a 'super car' such as a Ferrari, Lamborghini or Aston Martin instead of a single seater. This is a HIGHLY recommended treat - see our Activities page for details.

Dorset Steam Fair
 - claims to be the World's biggest Steam Fair, and as it fills the  600 acre site, I don't doubt it! The 2009 event was a great success. Click here for details of the 2010 fair.
Harpsichords

Peter's latest harpsichord (decorated with birds, flowers and butterflies of the Cranborne Chase) was featured on the British Harpsichord Society website and can also be viewed on www.smalleyharpsichords.co.uk

Barney update!

Barney, the hare we bottle fed from birth in 2003, grew so large and lively that we eventually had to release him (or her?).
Now Barney is a regular annular visitor in the garden surprising several guests by appearing outside their window in the morning!

The right hand photograph shows Barney in the courtyard in August 2007.

Local Wood Engravings by Howard Phipps

We are very fortunate to have an extremely talented wood engraver living locally. He is enchanted by the Chalke Valley and has made many fine engravings of local views, such as 'Knowle Hill' (Broadchalke) opposite.

We have examples of Howard's work here and can arrange for guests to visit his studio, where prints are available for sale.

Howard Phipps (b.1954) is a painter, printmaker and illustrator with a special interest in wood engraving. He studied painting at the Gloucestershire College of Art between 1971 and 1975 specialising in engraving since the late 1970's.

Howard is a member of The Royal West of England Academy and the Society of Wood Engravers. He has been a frequent exhibitor at R.A Summer Exhibitions where he was awarded the Christie's Contemporary Print Award for a colour wood engraving. In 2004 he received the Landscape Engraving Prize at The National Print Exhibition in London, for the second successive year.

Ground Source Heat Pump provides 'green' heat

The underfloor heating system in the house and The Stables at Ebblesway Courtyard is powered by ground source heat pump -   the type featured on CH. 4's Grand Designs. A mile of pipe buried 2 metres deep is connected to a water-to-water heat pump, which extracts heat from the ground and transfers it into pipes under the floor.

As well as being extremely 'green' it is also fantastically efficient (350%!)

If you interested in finding out more about the system, please contact us.
